“The George Hotel Colchester, with its 500-year history as a coaching inn on Colchester High Street, clearly aims for a blend of period charm and modern comfort. Though some experiences seem inconsistent, especially concerning room ambiance and service, the hotel's forthcoming refurbishment signals a commitment to improvement. Its central location makes it a practical base for exploring Colchester's historical sites, and the eclectic Victorian-themed tea room, 'T at The George,' sounds like a distinctive draw.”

amazing locationawful burgertough bacon
The location is amazing and the staff were very friendly and professional.
I was disappointed with the food. The burger I ordered during dinner was full of bone. The bacon served at breakfast was worse than boot leather. (It was quite tough, to be honest).

Fantastic Stay at a Central Hotel

friendly staffoutdoor courtyardlively dining
The staff was very great.. I appreciated the variety of seating, from the outdoor courtyard to the intimate tables. The dining room looked lively, and there was a tea room that seemed perfect for a bridal shower. I also noted that the staff were well-dressed and efficient.
I found it difficult to locate the hotel using sat nav, as it directed me through a bus lane.

The rooms appeared well-equipped and lovely, offering a comfortable stay for guests. The decor throughout the hotel had coordinated colors and tones, which added to the overall aesthetic appeal. This attention to detail creates a visually pleasing experience.

the location is in the heart of town.
I had dinner on my first night and it included probably the worst burger i've ever had. It was full of bone and grizzle. breakfast the next morning was equally bad. The sausage contained bone and grizzle. the bacon was worse than boot leather. It was a disappointing experience.
